For many years, beauty standards have been rigorously established, so much so that those who achieve them are a small group. And those who are not in it sometimes suffer frustration and depression.
Advertising, the fashion industry and entertainment have contributed to keeping these stereotypes alive and reinforcing them.
However, there are clothing brands that are seeking Chile Mobile Number List to break with them, and Victoria's Secret—whose iconic angels perfectly represent these standards—is joining this cause.
The American lingerie company is also interested in being inclusive and involving models of all skin types and different measurements.
Previously, Victoria's Secret presented 25-year-old Barbara Palvin as an example of inclusion, given the supposed difference in her measurements with those of the rest of the angels.
The media irresponsibly described Barbara as a plus size model .
This fact immediately aroused consumer outrage. The model in question is 1.75 tall and weighs 55 kilos. Her measurements not only do not resemble a curvy woman at all , but they are much closer to those of an average girl.
In response to this alarming situation, Victoria's Secret decided that another model, Ali Tate Cutler, would be the first plus size woman size 14/48.
I am very excited to work with a brand that I idolized as a teenager. It's a good step in the right direction for the bodies
Ali Tate Cutler
According to an interview with E! Ali says that working with Victoria's Secret feels amazing.
«When I went to the VS store for the collaboration launch, it seemed surreal. I never expected that I would see a picture of myself on the wall next to these supermodels that I have been admiring since I was a little girl. It all happened when I was chosen to be at Bluebella in London through my agents at Milk. "They told me this was going to be on the wall at VS and they would bring it to their flagship stores."
She hopes the firm continues to be more inclusive. Regarding her size: "I'm not obsessed with the term 'plus size.' I know I'm not the first plus size model, but I am the first size 12-14 model. Size 14 is actually the average size for women in America and I think we need to see these sizes more in the media and fashion - most women are that size. Therefore, we must be accurately represented in brands and media.”
I'm excited because they decided to put a size 14 on the wall. I feel like they're headed in the right direction, and they're listening to their audience who have asked to see more women of various shapes and sizes.
For her and the public it is important to start breaking stereotypes and the step that Victoria's Secret is taking is important.
The brand is asserting itself because it always had the thinnest women with the body that society marked, however, now it makes a difference.
